Biodynamic Farming and Gardening Association
(BDA)
The BDA was formed in the U.S. in 1938. It is a non-profit, membership
organization and is open to the public. The association has an educational
focus and conducts conferences, workshops and seminars, and also
publishes books and a quarterly journal, BIODYNAMICS. Biodynamic
agriculture was inaugurated in 1924 by the Austrian scientist, Rudolf
Steiner. It is the oldest organic farming movement. www.biodynamics.com
Demeter Association
The Demeter Association was founded in Europe in 1928 to support
and promote the Biodynamic agricultural methods that Rudolf Steiner
set forth in 1924. It is an independent certification office with
branches around that world that assure foods are grown and processed
according to specific, rigid standards. The Demeter logos assure
these standards in the marketplace, and the term Biodynamic®
is a registered trademark. Certified farms and processing factories
are visited annually to ensure continued accordance with Demeter
certified Biodynamic standards. www.demeter-usa.org
Josephine Porter Institute (JPI)
The mission of JPI is to heal the earth through production of quality
biodynamic preparations, and to advance education and research in
biodynamic agriculture. Gena Nonini, land steward at Marian Farms,
is on the Board of Directors of JPI and teaches courses on Biodynamic
agriculture through JPI. www.jpibiodynamics.org
Appropriate Technology Transfer for Rural Areas (ATTRA)
ATTRA’s National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service
is created and managed by the National Center for Appropriate Technology
(NCAT) and is funded under a grant from the United States Department
of Agriculture's Rural Business-Cooperative Service. It provides
information and other technical assistance to farmers, ranchers,
Extension agents, educators, and others involved in sustainable
agriculture in the United States. ATTRA’s web site has extensive,
excellent resources on Biodynamic agriculture. www.attra.org/attra-pub/biodynamic.html
The Pfeiffer Center
The Pfeiffer Center is dedicated to education, research and outreach
in farming, gardening and beekeeping. An important goal is to raise
awareness of Biodynamics as the most holistic approach to caring
for the land. Named in honor of Ehrenfried Pfeiffer, a research
pioneer in Biodynamic agriculture and nutrition, the center cultivates
a two-acre Biodynamic garden and offers workshops, apprenticeships
and a one-year, part-time gardening course. www.pfeiffercenter.org
